Maternity outcome data is widely collected - but often underutilised.
This workshop is designed for clinicians and maternity leaders who want to move beyond reporting and develop confidence in interpreting and applying Ten Group Classification System (TGCS)-based outcome data in real clinical settings. TGCS is a tool for asking better clinical questions, rather than defending rates. The Focus is practical, structured, and grounded in real-world data, not performance ranking or critique.
What you’ll learn to do
- Use TGCS as a practical clinical tool, not just a reporting framework
- Interpret maternity outcome data within local clinical context
- Work confidently with imperfect, real-world data
- Translate outcome data into local action, leadership conversations, and quality improvement
What the day looks like
This is a hands-on, interactive workshop. Participants will:
- Work with selected, de-identified TGCS-based outcome datasets
- Take part in facilitated group discussions focused on interpretation, data quality, and clinical context
- Explore how data can be applied within their own service settings
- Focus on implementation and quality improvement, rather than judgement or comparison
Want to Submit your Data?
Units may optionally submit TGCS-based outcome data in advance.
Register to receive the submission template and instructions.
- Up to 12 datasets selected for facilitated, anonymised discussion
- $100 off registration for selected units
- Incomplete or imperfect datasets welcome
Registration Fees
- Local: $550 inc GST
- International: $450 inc GST

This full-day interactive workshop brings together representatives from maternity units across AOFOG member nations to work with real-world data and explore practical ways to use standardised outcome measures to improve care.
Registration Fee: $550 inc GST for local, and $450 inc GST for international attendees.
Participating units will be invited to submit data in advance. Dr Michael Robson will select a representative sample from across the region for focused review during the workshop. Each selected dataset will be presented anonymously, then analysed in an interactive format with questions directed to the submitting unit to provide context, clarify practices, and highlight challenges.
Facilitated group exercises will give participants the chance to work directly with anonymised data — identifying patterns, comparing approaches, and shaping strategies for improvement. The sessions will cover both interpreting the data and applying it in practice, with a focus on:
- Timely, transparent access to information for both clinicians and mothers
- Using the Robson Ten Group Classification System (TGCS) as a common, globally recognised structure for comparison
- Building awareness and training to strengthen TGCS as a shared language
Through this approach, participants will learn how consistent, comparable data can be used not only to understand variation in outcomes but also to inform local, regional, and national quality improvement initiatives.
Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate practical methods for applying standardised outcome measures in clinical audit and data analysis.
- Compare and contrast maternity care outcomes across diverse contexts in the AOFOG region.
- Identify shared challenges and opportunities for collaborative improvement.
- Build confidence in using data to design, implement, and evaluate change.
