Calling for abstracts
AOFOG 2026 is calling for abstracts for the 2026 Congress being held between 12 - 15 October 2026 in Sydney, Australia.
Abstracts are welcome on any of the areas of interest listed below and must not have been published/presented elsewhere before being presented at AOFOG 2026.
The deadline for abstract submission is DAY DATE MONTH TIME TIMEZONE.
Before submitting your abstract, be sure you read the below guidelines carefully. All information you require is included below.

It is important to read these carefully when preparing your submission.

General guidelines
General submission guidelines
Outlined below are the general guidelines that must be followed.
- All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the online Abstract Submission Portal by the presenting author.
- Submission of several abstracts generated from the same study should be avoided.
- Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author. All correspondence will be sent to the submitting author by email.
- Please note: changes of author are not permitted, with the exception of special circumstances, which will be considered by the Working Group Chair.
- Only one author per abstract can be nominated as the ‘presenting author’.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a maximum 80-word biographical paragraph of the presenting author.
- Biographical details should be written in full sentences (not dot points) and in third person.
- Biographical details will be used by the session Chair for introductions purposes and may also be published in AOFOG Congress literature/app.
Items required before submitting an abstract
Please ensure the following required information is available before beginning the online abstract submission process:
- Your contact details.
- The title of your abstract.
- Name and organisation of your co-author/s, if applicable.
- Your (the presenting author’s) biographical details.
- Your abstract prepared in the correct format.
What is an encore presentation?
- An encore presentation is one where you have already presented/published the submitted work before.
- For example if you have presented the work at another women’s health event.
- Does AOFOG 2026 accept encore presentations?
- No, encore presentations will not be accepted
- If a study has been presented elsewhere before AOFOG 2026, it is not eligible for submission.

Abstract Content guidelines
Outlined below are the abstract content specific guidelines that must be followed.
- Length: The maximum of the main body of the abstract should be 250 words (i.e. excluding title, authors and institutions).
- Title: The abstract title should reflect the main content and nature of the abstract; do not use abbreviations within the title. The word limit on abstract titles is 25 words.
- Structure: Abstracts must be structured using the following format; any abstracts not following the correct structure may not be accepted.

- Spelling and Grammar: All abstracts should be written in English and thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar before submission. Use standard abbreviations only; place any unusual abbreviations in brackets after the word appears for the first time within the body of the abstract, abbreviations may be used thereafter.
- Layout and Format
- Each abstract must be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx). No other formats will be accepted. If you submit in another format, your abstract will be rejected.
- The title of the abstract should be written in title case.
- As abstracts are anonymously reviewed, please DO NOT include authors and affiliations in the abstract document itself. You can enter these details into the relevant fields within the online abstract submission portal.
- Please refrain from using printed enhancements such as italics, under lining, bold text etc. Italics may be used for non-English words or scientific names where necessary.
- Figures, tables, charts, and graphs are not permitted in the initial abstract submission.
- Please ensure results are detailed within the abstract (abstracts must not state ‘results will be presented at the meeting’) and appropriate statistical tests have been used and reported. Abstracts presented without results will not be accepted.
- Sources of funding should be indicated at the bottom of the abstract, as applicable.
- Use generic names of drugs, where applicable.
- References should be avoided or, if essential, should be kept to a minimum and presented in Vancouver (numbered) style. Note that all references will be included in the maximum abstract length (250 word total).
- Please note abstracts may be re-formatted and edited for publication in the program handbook.
- Changes to Final Abstract: Any necessary changes to your abstract must be made by the final submission date. Edits cannot be accepted after the submission deadline.

Free Communication Presentation (Oral)
Free Communication Presentations (Oral) will be allocated 10 minutes to present the research, including 2 minutes of questions.
Abstracts not selected for Free Communication Presentations (Oral) may be eligible for Poster presentation.
Please note that following acceptance of an abstract for Free Communication Presentation (Oral) in the official program, the abstract is unable to be presented to any other scientific body before AOFOG 2026 is held.
Static Poster Presentation
Static Poster Presentations will be available for viewing by all delegates.
Full instructions on the format and display of Posters will be detailed within acceptance notifications sent to nominated presenting authors.
ePoster Presentation
ePoster Presentations will be available for viewing by all delegates.
Full instructions on the format and display of Posters will be detailed within acceptance notifications sent to nominated presenting authors.
Awards and Prizes
Accepted presentations will be judged during the AOFOG 2026 Congress.
Prizes will be awarded for the following:
- Best Free Communication Presentation (Oral) Prize – AUD1200
- Best Three minute thesis prize – AUD750
- Best Static Poster Presentation Prize – AUD500
- ePoster prize: Delegate’s Choice – AUD250
Abstract Review
All submitted abstracts will undergo a peer review (blind review) process by the AOFOG Working Group.
Abstracts will be reviewed and selected according to the below criteria:
- Content: how does the abstract relate to the wider context of the O&G specialty
- Abstract Design: is the design appropriate for the aims of the abstract
- Scientific Rigour: does the abstract meet and exceed the threshold of scientific rigour
- Written Quality: is the abstract well written and understood
- Originality: is the abstract original in idea
- Delegate Engagement: will it encourage discussion amongst delegates
Incomplete abstracts, abstracts not written in English or abstracts not following the submission guidelines cannot be processed and will not be reviewed.
No revisions are possible after the submission deadline – no exceptions.
Conditions of Acceptance
If accepted into the official program, the following conditions will apply:
- All accepted presenters must register for the Congress and pay the appropriate registration fee by the early bird deadline.
- Any presenter not registered by this date will have their abstract withdrawn from the program.
- Authorship is not transferrable to another person.
- Submission of abstracts implies the author’s agreement to publish the abstract in AOFOG 2026 literature/app as applicable.
- Abstracts accepted may be provided upon request to media outlets promoting a specific presentation.
- Please note that submission of abstracts implies the author’s consent.
Important note: Failure to meet the specified deadlines or guidelines may result in exclusion from the program.

Q: How do I submit?
A: All abstract submissions are required to be completed online. To submit your abstract click the submit abstract tab above. Please ensure you read all guidelines information on this page prior to commencing your submission.
Please note, emailed submissions will not be accepted.
Q: What type of presentations are available?
A: There are 3 types of presentations available: Free Communication Presentation (Oral), Static Poster Presentation, ePoster Presentation.
Q: Do you accept encore presentations?
A: AOFOG 2026 does not accept encore presentations. If a study has been presented elsewhere before AOFOG 2026, it is not eligible for submission.
What is an encore presentation?

For example if you have presented the work at another women’s health event.
Q: Can I use QR codes in my abstract submission?
A: No, QR codes are not permitted in submissions. However, they may be used in presentations.
Q: Can funding or disclaimer statements be included?
A: Yes, if applicable. They should be placed at the bottom of the abstract and are not included in the word count.
Q: When will authors be notified of submission acceptance or otherwise?
A: The submitting author (presenter) will be notified of the outcome of their submission via email.
Q: Are presenters required to register for the congress?
A: Yes, as a presenter you are required to register and pay for the congress. Any presenters not registered for the congress by the early bird registration deadline will be withdrawn from the program.
Q: Will submissions be published?
A: Only accepted abstract submissions where the presenter has registered and paid to attend the congress will be included in the Congress literature/app.
