Assoc Professor Jared Watts

Associate Professor Jared Watts is an obstetrician and gynaecologist whose career has been shaped by working alongside women, families and clinicians in rural and remote communities. Based in the Kimberley, he is Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the WA Country Health Service and Vice President of RANZCOG. Jared is passionate about improving access to culturally responsive maternity and women’s healthcare, especially for Aboriginal women and those living far from specialist services. His work focuses on practical solutions, including telehealth, workforce reform, multidisciplinary training and redesigning care around the realities of rural life. He has also worked with Médecins Sans Frontières in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Laos and Syria, experiences that continue to influence his approach to leadership. Jared was named WA Rural Specialist of the Year in 2023. Outside these roles, he values collaboration, curiosity and the belief that geography should never determine the quality of healthcare a person receives.
